According to the statistics of Sanya Customs, Sanya's offshore duty-free sales from January to February reached 7.98 billion yuan ($1.16 billion), selling nearly 9 million pieces of duty-free goods and welcoming 9,011 consumers.
After the optimization and adjustment of the COVI-19 pandemic prevention and control policies in December 2022, Sanya stimulated the consumption potential of the duty-free market through the issuance of consumer coupons, as well as through the holding of the Hainan International Offshore Duty-free Shopping Festival and the consumption promotion month.
"As the popularity of staggered peak tourism continues, the passenger flow has been stable recently. We have also extended the preferential policies so that tourists can enjoy their benefits," said Zhang Yimei, deputy general manager of Hainan Tourism Duty Free (HTDF) Shopping Complex.
From January to February, the passenger flow of HTDF Shopping Complex increased by 20 percent year-on-year, with the increasing sales of duty-free goods.
Zhang said that she is optimistic that offshore duty-free sales in the first half of the year will grow exponentially with the upcoming May Day holiday and the third China International Consumer Products Expo.
